Bells on Danforth 2018 Details

The 7th annual Bells on Danforth will be riding the Danforth from Logan Avenue in Riverdale to the Oakridge Community Recreation Centre (CRC) in Scarborough, where we’ll be joining the Oakridge Community Fun Fair. Our starting point this year is in Withrow Park, a block south of Danforth between Carlaw and Logan Aves. You can also join us anywhere along the route. Watch this page, as well as our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts for any updates.

When

Gather at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018. The ride leaves at 11:00 a.m.

Where do we start?

On the west side of Withrow Park (at Logan Ave), 1 block south of Danforth. If you’re arriving from the south, you’ll want to ride up Logan to find us. If you’re arriving from the north, ride down Carlaw and then cross through Withrow Park to the west side. We recommend that you arrive early so that you have time to stop in at the Withrow Park Farmers’ Market in the northeast corner of the park and the Big Yard Sale near where we’ll be gathering.

What’s happening at the end of the ride?

We’ll be arriving this year at the Oakridge Community Fun Fair, featuring food, games, a bike rodeo, and a raffle for a free kids’ bike. Our partners at the Crossroads of the Danforth BIA will once again be distributing coupons for local restaurants if you’re looking for a more substantial family meal (or ice cream!). You can download the poster for the fun fair (JPEG or printable PDF)

After we’ve all had time for a meal and some fun at the fair, we’ll be offering a marshalled ride back along Danforth toward Withrow Park. If you’re hungry again after the ride back, the Thrill of the Grill will be serving up food until 4 pm on Danforth between Jackman and Broadview.

Route

Danforth between Broadview and Jackman Aves will be closed on Bells Day for the Thrill of the Grill, so we’ve moved our starting point a few blocks east to Withrow Park. Here’s a map of our full route:

Follow us online!

This year, you’ll be able to follow the ride on Glympse (IOS, Android), so you’ll know exactly where we are if you plan to join in along the way.

Getting Back

As always, we’ll be offering an escorted return ride west from the fun fair. The official route will return along Danforth Avenue to Logan. Riders may leave the main group with a ding and a wave as they approach their destinations. More details will be announced before the start of the ride and at the fun fair after the ride is over. If you don’t want to take the escorted ride back, the fun fair is a very short ride away from the Victoria Park subway station and the Don Valley trail system via quiet residential streets. If you need more information, ask one of the ride marshals or send us an email.
